Vital Tips – Spring Clean Detox

Spring Clean Detox 

Spring Clean your system with this super charged, nutritious detox juice. 

The pineapple is full of enzymes that aid digestion, the cucumber is an excellent hydrator and also full of vitamins and minerals, while Aloe Vera juice is well know as a bit of a miracle plant and then the coconut water is an amazing hydrator and is packed full of electrolytes.

Pineapple Detox Juice

Makes 2 drinks
1 pineapple ready for juicing
1 cucumber
2/3 of a cup of Aloe Vera Juice
1 cup of Coconut Water

Juice the pineapple and cucumber. Combine with the coconut water and Aloe Vera.  
Shake and serve over ice.
Enjoy!

Grilled Courgette Salad with Chilli and Feta

Grilled Courgette Salad with Chilli and FetaIngredients
4 courgettes
2 baby gems, cut into ribbons
1-2 red chillies, finely chopped
60g pine nuts
60g currants
a  handful mint leaves,  chopped
140g feta cheese
80ml extra virgin olive oil
juice of half a lemon
Cut the courgettes into long thin slices, down their length. Drizzle them with olive oil, salt and pepper and cook on a griddle pan or under a hot grill on both sides until and cooked through.
Meanwhile heat a little olive oil in a frying pan and add the currants and pine nuts. Fry until the currants have puffed up and the pine nuts are a pale golden colour. Put the lettuce, mint and courgette strips on a plate, scatter with the pine nuts, chilli and raisins, crumble over the feta and season with a good pinch of pepper. Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and the lemon juice.

Rather than a full on detox, you could implement a few changes to your daily routine.
Try no food until midday, just juice or herbal teas. This gives all your organs and systems a rest and helps to detox in a very simple way!

Be Mindful about everything you eat. Cut back on sugar, & fats. Make lots of soups, juices and eat lots of dark leafy vegetables.

Bath in dead sea salts  – a great cleanse for the skin, the largest organ in our bodies!

Visualise all the new ideas you have this year, don’t make a list and drive yourself mad if you don’t keep to it, that’s set you up for being a failure if you don’t achieve them.

It begins with diaphragmatic breathing, then follows this beautiful rhythm with some simple sequences that will leave you feeling calm, contented and rooted in the present. Finally, you’ll learn the ’61 points’ exercise, travelling mentally through the body whilst in a relaxed state, and focusing on vital, nerve-rich areas to encourage a deep release of muscular tension.

Mindfulness workshops are extremely popular at the moment and found by some to be more accessible than meditation.  This workshop teaches you to bring your complete attention to the present on a moment-to-moment basis. My Great Italian Aunties Winter Soup

Minestra Soupa – My Great Italian Aunties reciepe

Packed with iron, vitamin A and antioxidant’s this is a wonderful healthy nutritious , immune boosting and cheap soupa!
I make a big batch and eat some every day for lunch – it gets tastier over the next few days as the favours mingle!

Ingredients
1 big glug of olive oil
4 gloves of garlic
1 pinch of dried chilli flakes
2 stalks of celery
Half a handful of flat leaf parsley
1 bunch of spring greens
1 bunch of kale
1 tin of borlotti or canellini beans
1 heap spoon of Boillion (vegetarian stock powder)

Method
Heat the olive oil gently in a big soup pot
Squash and roughly chop the garlic
Throw in the oil with the chilli flakes
Before it goes brown put about a quarter of boiling water in and simmer
Chop the celery and parsley and add to the stock, at this stage it smells delicious!!
Add the bouillion stock and the borlotti beans and cook for about 5 minutes
Chop the greens into mouth size pieces and put in the stock, give a good stir, boil and simmer with lid on half way for about 5 minutes only.
When cooked, put a tea cloth on the top of the pot to absorb the moisture and leave to stand for 10 minutes to absorb all the delicious flavours before serving.

To serve
Add a glug of extra virgin olive oil, pinch of sea salt, squeeze of lemon and more chilli flakes if you like.. eat on its own or with toasted cibatta.
